Privacy Policy

This policy describes what Pie Divide (“we”, “us”) collects when you use piedivide.com and app.piedivide.com (together, the “Service”), why we collect it, who else touches it, and what you can ask us to do with it. The short version: we collect what the product needs to work, we do not sell it, and we do not share it with advertisers.

What we collect, and why

Account details. Your name and email address, and a password stored only as a one-way hash — we cannot read or recover it. If you enable two-factor sign-in, we store one-time codes as hashes for the minutes they are valid. We record when you accepted these terms and which version you accepted.

An optional profile photo. If you add one, it is resized in your browser before upload — which also strips embedded photo metadata such as GPS location — and stored encrypted at rest. It is shown only to people you share a project with.

Project data. Project names, the contribution weights your team negotiates, proposals and their rationales, the assessment scores each founder submits about each founder, computed equity results, approvals and dispute reasons, and the post-finalization checklist. This is the product; none of it works without this data.

Session and security data. Each sign-in records an approximate IP address and browser user agent, so you can review your active sessions and end any you do not recognise. Sign-in attempts are rate-limited using counters keyed to account and IP address. Administrative actions on our side are recorded in an audit log that names who did what, when.

Payment records.If you buy the paid version of a project, the payment is processed by Stripe. Card details go directly to Stripe and never reach our servers; we store the amount, the outcome, and Stripe’s identifiers for the payment so we can deliver what was bought and support you if something goes wrong.

Partner network data. If you apply to the partner directory, we collect the business details you submit (company, contact details, location, bio, listing content). If you request an introduction to a partner, we record the request, and — only if the partner accepts — we record the exchange of contact details described below.

What your co-founders can see

Pie Divide is a shared workspace. People on the same project see the project’s data: the weights, proposals, who has approved or disputed and why, the computed result, and your name, email address and photo. The scores you submit are different: nobody else on the project is ever shown them — not while the round is open, and not after the split is computed. You can read back your own answers; what the project records and shows everyone is the computed percentages and the per-category breakdown, never who rated whom what. Treat everything else you type into a project as something your co-founders will read.

When contact details are shared through the partner network

Your contact details are shared with a professional only when you ask that professional for an introduction and they accept. Accepting reveals the partner’s contact details to you and your name and email address to the partner — the request form says so before you send it. What was shared, and when, is recorded as it stood at that moment. Nothing is shared before acceptance, and we never pass your details to anyone because of a decision we made on your behalf.

Cookies and analytics

The app uses a single session cookie to keep you signed in. It is HttpOnly, is not readable by scripts, and is not used for tracking. The marketing site (piedivide.com) may use Google Analytics to understand aggregate traffic; the app itself carries no analytics. We do not use advertising cookies or sell data to data brokers.

Who processes data on our behalf

We use a small set of service providers, each only for what it is named for: Stripe (payments), Resend (transactional email — verification, sign-in codes, password resets, invitations and notifications), Google Cloud (hosting and databases, in the United States), and Sanity (content for the marketing site’s articles). If you are outside the United States, your data is processed and stored in the United States.

How long we keep it

Account and project data is kept while your account exists, because the record of how a split was reached is the product’s purpose. Payment and audit records are kept as long as we are required to keep them for tax, accounting and dispute-resolution purposes. Expired sign-in sessions and one-time codes are dead on expiry and periodically removed.

Security

Passwords are hashed, sessions are stored as hashes of their tokens, profile photos are encrypted at rest, and all traffic is encrypted in transit. No system is breach-proof and we do not claim to be; if we learn of a breach affecting your personal data we will notify you as the law requires.

Your choices and rights

You can correct your name and photo in Settings, review and revoke your active sessions, and archive projects. To export a copy of your personal data, or to delete your account and the personal data we hold about you, email support@piedivide.comfrom your account address and we will act on it within 30 days. Deleting your account does not delete a finalized project’s record for the other founders on it — the record of the agreement belongs to the whole team — but your account details are removed. Depending on where you live you may have additional rights (access, correction, deletion, portability, objection); we honour reasonable requests to exercise them regardless of where you live.

Children

The Service is for people 18 and older, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone younger.

Changes

If we change this policy materially, we will post the new version here with a new effective date, and note the change in the app. What we will not do is quietly repurpose data collected under an older version.
